SAAB 9-5 oil question by simply_made: On my 01 Saab 9.5, Why does oil end up in the throttle body? I recently bought this car, oil is ending up in the throttle body and giving me a P1251 and P0302 Codes. I know one of those codes are a misfire, but the other one is a throttle body. Other symptoms are power loss during acceleration and occasional shut offs while ideling at red lights. If I let the car sit for a day, it will make quick trips to the store and back just fine, but and drives across town will not make it. I started reading up on PCV Valves thinking that it was PCV related. On my search for a new Valve I stopped into a Saab Shop (Local hole in the wall place that works on nothing but saabs). I spoke the girl in the front office and asked if they could sell me a PCV Valve. She wrote it down then the diappered into the shop area, she came back and asked me if I had the old one. She went to the back again and returned again to ask me how do I know that the PCV is bad? I told her that I was getting throttle body codes after a throttle body cleaning and oil is still appearing in that area. She said its more likely to be the turbo. Here’s the thing, she is obviously NOT a mechanic, and who ever she spoke to did not even see the car. Which leaves me with this question. What is the most likely cause of oil in my throttle body? A bad PCV Valve? (if so please explain where it is) A bad turbo? Something else? SAAB 9-5 oil best answer: Answer by L GI can help a little. Pull one of the pipes off the intercooler. You will almost always have some oil residue within but if its coated then that indicates a problem but you already know that because of what you ask. A turbo unit has various seals across either end of the main shaft. One end of the shaft has an impeller in the exhaust manifold whilst the other end has an impeller in the clean air flow from the air filter. There is a forced oil feed across the bearings and seals and its that that starts to fail with age as the oil “bakes” on the exhaust side.If you get the car engine to running temperature and observe the exhaust gases on tickover. Look for a low cloud or accumulation of blue -ish smoke that sort of just hangs in the air emitting from the exhaust. […]
