SAAB 9-5 turbo exhaust question by Mysticheadlice: Saab billowing white smoke intermittently?
2001 Saab 9-5. Was running fine, had serpentine belt replaced, ran fine for a day then began hesitating after startup, and would billow huge amounts of white smoke, then would smooth out, run fine, but with less power than usual, no smoke. Cruises fine once the initial hesitancy/smoking goes away, but accelerates poorly from standing start and no smoke visible from cockpit. Is this a turbo problem, and why doesn’t it smoke constantly, and why does it stop smoking after it gets warmed up?

Large amounts of white smoke usually means coolant is getting mixed with the exhaust gases. I’d say your head gasket has had it.if there’s oil in your coolant reservoir, then you can be absolutely sure it’s the head gasket.
