Peugeot 408 question by Thinner: why did the us stop importing Peugeot cars and bicycles?
Peugeot is the second largest car manufacture in the world, and i am sick of all this crap Germany is calling french, and british cars. Cooper of england owned by bmw, and french smart cars which are owned by mercedes. Although both of these are still manufactured in their native countries, like a lot of europe, they are owned by germany. These cars, and the mexican vw’s are not good cars, but cute bodies on junk with big price tags. Peugeot is one of the worlds best cars, and the second larges company. We used to import them in the 80′s and maybe into the 90′s. WHY DID WE STOP. Peugeot bicycles are nice, and they are outrageous on ebay, but I find that I can get one off ebay france an outrageously inexpensive price. Why dont we bring Peugeot bicycles, or watches to the US market?

Nobody bought them and they were unreliable. Whats the point of spending hundreds of millions designing a car that passes US and European laws? Its cheaper to make it only European legal since thats the only place they were sold.

Its a global world. Everybody is owned by someone else.

Peugeot is far from the 2nd largest car company in the world.
